What is Walk to End to Lupus Now™?

Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now is America’s largest lupus walk program with thousands of walkers in nearly 60 cities across the nation to raise money for lupus research, increase awareness of lupus, and rally public support for the estimated 1.5 million Americans who suffer from its brutal impact.

Do I need to register for the Walk?

Yes, all Walkers should register to participate in the event. Click here to get started. If you have Walkers joining you day of the event, they can register on site.

Is there a registration fee?

No. The Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter Executive Committee of the Board voted March 28th, 2016, to waive the registration fee going forward - it will be free in 2017 to attend this fundraising Walk. We greatly encourage all participants to raise needed awareness of lupus and to fundraise a minimum of $100 (all incentive prizes are tied to individual fundraising efforts again in 2017and will be mailed directly to a participant's residence by our contractor, Turnkey, 4 weeks after October 7). Those individuals raising $100 (or more) will earn their Club 100 T-shirt (if $100 or more raised before noon September 22nd) and a Club 100 T-shirt will be awaiting the individual walker on October 7; if $100 is raised after noon on September 22 (and turned in on Walk Day), the individual participant will be mailed their special Club 100 T-shirt.  Please remember that all T-shirts and incentives earned are tied to the individual fundraisers, not team totals!

How do I get a T-shirt?

 All walkers registered who fundraise $100 or more by noon on September 22nd will receive a 100 Club Tshirt, with 100 Club designation on the sleeve.  Walkers who register after this time or between September 22-October 7 who fundraise $100 will receive their shirts mailed to their residence approximately 4 weeks after the Walk date. Donations made to another walker’s fundraising page, or teammate’s page, or donated to the team overall, do not count, as these totals are per individual.

New in 2017 - we have a special promotion of a new Early Bird T-shirt - if you register to walk online AND you choose to immediately donate $25, before May 1st when this special campaign ends, you will receive a EARLY BIRD T-shirt on Walk Day. This T-shirt will be exactly the same as the Club 100 Walk T-shirt in design, but will be gray instead of purple (and will not have Club 100 written on the sleeve).

If you register as a lupus patient - you will receive your lupus patient white T-shirt at the Walk - this is in addition to the 2 other categories of T-shirts you can be eligible for this year (the Club 100 and the Early Bird)!

*For questions about T-shirts in 2017 - contact the LFA Indiana Office at 317.225.4400 or lisa@lupusindiana.org or 800.948.8806

How do I pick up other fundraising incentive prizes?

On approximately November 1 redemption certificates for all incentive prizes (250+) will be emailed from WalkToEndLupusNow@lupus.org (please add to your address book to ensure you receive it) from our contractor, Turnkey. YOU HAVE TO ACTIVELY CLICK WITHIN THIS EMAIL TO ACCEPT OR 'CLAIM' THE INCENTIVE PRIZE! Once you select your incentive item and click inside that redemption certificate email, it will be shipped to you by Turnkey. The Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter reserves the right to substitute an incentive item of equal or greater value.

How long do I have to collect and turn in donations to qualify for an incentive prize?

Donations will continue to be collected until October 31st to qualify for one of our prizes. Incentive items are not cumulative. Fundraisers may select one item at or below the level achieved. Company matching gifts are included in fundraising totals if the fundraiser provides the appropriate matching gift form when turning in the eligible donation by Walk Day, October 7.

Why should I raise money?

By raising funds for the Indianapolis Walk to End Lupus Now, you are helping us fulfill our vision of a world free of lupus through lupus research, education and advocacy programs to help improve the lives of all people impacted by lupus.

We have set an Indianpolis Walk Goal of $135,000 in 2017 - we need your hard work and willingness to talk about the importance of this fundraising event and the awareness it raises for the 1.5 million sufferers to reach this goal in 2017,

Where does the money go?

Funds raised from this year’s Indianapolis Walk will help:

  • Lead special research initiatives, fund innovative studies, and advocate for increased public and private investment in lupus research to advance the science and medicine of lupus;
  • Translate research findings into useful programs, information, and tools for people with lupus, and ensure health professionals know about new means to diagnose and manage the disease;
  • Conduct outreach efforts to increase public understanding of lupus, and share stories of those who suffer from the disease to rally public support to join the fight to end lupus; and,
  • Provide caring support to people with lupus, their families and their caregivers, and help guide them through the complexities of living with lupus.
  • Expand support group offerings and expand our free yoga and tai chi offerings.

What should I do with checks & cash donations?

You can mail your check donations to:
Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter

How long is the Walk route?

The Walk is approximately 1 mile, leaving from Celebration Plaza and connecting to the Canal Walk, winding around in front of the NCAA building, along the Cultural Trail and returning to the start. There is also a 3 mile option that travels most of Canal Walk. There will be plenty of volunteers and the routes will be well-marked on Walk Day, October 7. Don’t want to walk? Sign up to volunteer instead! With our new downtown Celebration Plaza and Canal Walk location, we will need more volunteers than in year's past.  If you have interest in volunteering or joining our Indy Walk Planning Committee for 2017, please contact Lisa Kelly at lisa@lupusindiana.org.
