2017 Walk to End Lupus Now, Atlanta

The Lupettes

Welcome to our fundraising team page!

I have been in Atlanta now for almost 4 years struggling everyday with arthritis, fibromyalgia, Raynaud’s, Sjogren's and other symptoms that led to my Lupus diagnosis.

I may not be singing on a Broadway stage, but I currently work for an amazing arts education non-profit dedicated to providing quality arts education programs for students in Georgia. I have always loved teaching and my current job allows me to explore all aspects of creating! Yes, it is quite physical and exhausting most days and still an adjustment for me to ask for help or to accept that I can’t do everything I used to. Because of the progression of my symptoms, in the summer fo 2016 I had to go part time at the job I love and start a new medicine, Benlysta. Benlysta is a 3 hour infusion every 4 weeks to help manage Lupus symptoms.

Every day is different. I am so lucky to have an amazing husband and family that support me and understand my day to day struggles. I will never take that for granted as many Lupus patients are struggling alone.

Also check out the Georgia Chapter Living with Lupus video that I am featured in the first 3 mintues. https://youtu.be/UEnDSfbKQV4

I hope to help and encourage young people struggling with this disease to know this isn’t a death sentence. You can still pursue your dreams!

If you would like to simply donate to my team, please do so on my personal page http://chapters.lupus.org/goto/carasharenko

Imagine a day when doctors can say, "There is a cure for lupus". Until that day though, there is work to be done. That's why we are taking action in the fight against lupus. Join us as we participate in the Lupus Foundation of America's Walk to End Lupus Now! in [city] to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.

Will you join our team and help us reach our fundraising goal? You’ll be supporting the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus. You can also support by making a secure contribution on our walk page. Every single dollar counts!

Did you know?

  • Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
  • Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
  • While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
  • Only one drug has ever been developed and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the disease.

Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Join our team today and support our efforts!
