I’m Walking to End Lupus. Will you support me?

Imagine a day when doctors can say, “There is a cure for lupus.” Until that day though, there is work to be done. That’s why I’m taking action in the fight against lupus. Join me as I participate in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™ in Atlanta on April 29, 2023 to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.

Lupus has affected every aspect of my life from the time I was a child. I can remember countless days of fevers, joint pain, fatigue, random illnesses- all with no known cause. Because there was not a lot understood about lupus and the affected demographic during my childhood, I did not receive a diagnosis until I was 20. Lupus has taken a toll on me mentally and physically, but I try to hide it well. Lupus has interfered with my education, athletics and work abilities. I've witnessed a number of people lose their battle to this disease, most recently an old friend and classmate. These losses are a stark reminder that every infusion, medication and procedure is just a step to keep us stable because there is no cure for this disease. I am participating in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™ because lupus is a part of who I am, and I believe in advocating for myself and others with this disease.

• Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
• Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
• While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
• Lupus is hard to diagnose, but the Lupus Foundation of America is working to make life easier and more comfortable for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.
