I’m Walking to End Lupus. Join Me?
My name is Tonya, I'm 48 and I have LUPUS. I have had symptoms of Lupus since the age 9 but wasn't diagnosed correctly until the age 25. I'm a mother of two sons ages 16 and 23. Dalvin and Darnell has endured a lifetime of watching me suffer with LUPUS. I'm passionate about raising money for the cause because a cure might be discovered and it will help to end the suffering of this disease. A healthy person will never understand this disease unless they have someone close to them that has LUPUS. I want to be able the live a happy and normal life and not have to worry about if I will be flaring or not. With Lupus it is hard to make plans and keep them. We live a life of not knowing. For instant I missed out on going to the Super Bowl because I was having a bad flare. We often miss out on a lot in life due to flare ups. I often spend majority of my time at home hiding because I don't want people to see the scaring and swelling that I deal with. That's no way to live. We have to avoid STRESS at all times, but lately all I have is stress. Life at times are hard to deal with and if you don't handle it correctly you can have a major flare up. I have lost a kidney because of Lupus. As a lupus warrior we get tired of hearing we don't look sick. Lupus attacks our organs, makes our body FIGHT against itself and it does a lot of destruction to our bodies. The pain is unbearable and we live our lives in constant pain. We have learned how to mask the pain with a smile and keep it moving. Please help me and others with your donations for a cause that is dear to my heart to FIND A CURE.
Imagine a day when doctors can say, “There is a cure for lupus.” Until that day though, there is work to be done. That’s why I’m taking action in the fight against lupus. Join me as I participate in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™ in [city] to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.
Will you make a donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus? A generous contribution of $25 or $55 can make a definite impact. What’s more, if your employer offers a Matching Gift Program to employees, you may be able to double your contribution with just a little bit of paperwork. Trust me, it’s worth the effort! Every single dollar counts.
Did you know?
- Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
- Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart
- or kidneys.
- While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
- Only one drug has ever been developed and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the disease.
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Thank you for your generosity!
