Donna and I are hopeful that all of you and your families are healthy and doing well. For us, springtime in Atlanta always means the Atlanta Lupus Walk and an opportunity to raise funds to help fight this dreadful disease. This year's walk is Saturday April 27 at the new Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field). It is the nation's largest walk and you are certainly invited to attend.
This has been another difficult health year for Donna. After spending last year helping me with a broken arm and undergoing a heart catheterization (which thankfully showed no heart damage), she tore her ACL in an accidental fall on August 31. What a terrible injury. I thought a broken arm was bad, but it was nothing compared to a torn ACL. She was bedridden for almost a month before they could do surgery in September to replace the ACL. Post surgery recovery has been a painful and lengthy process. She is currently mobile but has some difficulty getting around and is still going to physical therapy. The doctor told her that it would take a year to make a full recovery and it's going to take every bit of that. Additionally, in the past few weeks, she has been suffering from acute Lupus flareups that have been painful and difficult to bear. As always, Donna has handled these conditions with a strength and determination that continues to amaze me. She courageously fights this disease daily and refuses to give in to it. This takes an incredible inner strength and she puts up a valiant battle every day of the year. I know that I could not do nearly as well.
Donna and I are so thankful for your past participation in this great effort to find a cure for Lupus. Both of us are asking for your help again and will be appreciative of any donation amount that you can contribute. Contributions from people like you are the main support for finding a cure for this disease that affects millions of people.
You can easily donate on this page, Click on Donate Now. You can also send me a check at the office at 8601 Dunwoody Place, Suite 406, Atlanta, GA 30350 made payable to Lupus Foundation of Georgia.
Please try to make your donation before April 19 so the Georgia Chapter can reach its goal. They have an aggressive goal and any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to pass this letter on to family, friends and associates. You would be very surprised at how many of them know someone with Lupus and would be willing to donate to this incredibly worthy cause.
Donna and I can never thank all of you enough nor show how much we appreciate your help in fighting Lupus. Our absolute best to each of you and your loved ones.
