My (Carol A. Williams) story is, I was diagnosis with Lupus in 1999, half way through my military career. After being hospitalize several times within a year and was unable to walk and I could no longer deploy or completed my military duties, I had to make the hard decision of terminating my military service. It took the doctors 18 months to diagnosis me correctly. Lupus is a disease that has been out for a while, however, people still does not know about it. So many people are living with chronic pain and are not sure of what is going on in their bodies. This fundraiser is to bring awareness to Lupus, the symptoms, and living with Lupus daily.
For 20+ years, I served in the United States Army, often finding myself in the most challenging situations, all for the love of my country and the pursuit of freedom. However, even with my many years of service + living as a single mother, it wasn't until I retired from the military that I really started to face the biggest battle of my life, my battle with lupus.
I was diagnosed over 18 years ago with this illness, and so far I've been able to manage all of the good and bad days. However, all of the years of constant medication has really taken a toll on my body and it seems like nothing is really helping/my body has gotten used to all of the chemicals that are now within my body.
Even with the many dietary classes/regiments and other changes to my lifestyle, my body is just not responding for the better. Therefore, I am looking to raise funds for the Lupus Foundation.
