I’m Walking to End Lupus. Won't You Please Join Me?
Lupus is a disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue and organs. In my case, it attacked my skin, lungs, joints, and… Brian.
I have a picture of my son Brian’s hand. It was perfect, and tiny, and only here on earth with me for a moment. I never got to wash its imprint off my walls or help him trace it and transform it into a Thanksgiving turkey. His fingers never curled around mine, a hockey stick, or his prom date’s hand. It is the only physical mark he left on this earth.
It’s really hard for me to think about all the “nevers” Brian didn’t have a chance to experience; you see, he was stillborn at 32 weeks because of my undiagnosed lupus.
It’s heartbreaking for me to know there are other families and other Brians out there who have in the past and will in the future go through the same. Even worse? Realizing all this can be prevented. If we can find a cure for lupus, we can ensure that it never again takes the life of an unborn child. We can make certain that it never strikes down another young woman or man with its relentless cavalcade of symptoms ranging from rashes to debilitating fatigue to kidney failure. We can safeguard the futures of the 1.5 million Americans living with lupus by eliminating the toxic medications we must take on a daily basis to keep our lupus at bay. If you join me in the fight against this chronic, incapacitating, and destructive disease by making a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America’s Georgia Chapter, you can make a difference in the lives of those now living with lupus and hopefully help usher in a lupus-free future. Please visit my website today. If you are unable to make a monetary donation, please make a spiritual one by praying for a cure.
Please help my son Brian leave his mark on this world through my fund-raising efforts to find a cure for lupus. It would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much, and God bless you and yours.
