I am Walking to End Lupus. Join Me?
I will be participating in the Walk to End Lupus Now event in our community to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter this year.
People with Lupus often develop other autoimmune conditions. There was a time when I could walk into a doctor's office and recite my medical history and prescriptions without pen and paper. I can't do that anymore. I feel like a 48 year old in an 84 year old's body. Doctors call these conditions comorbidities. I choose to call them morbid! Conditions like Sjogren's Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Hidradenitis Supertiva, Venous Insufficiency, and Neuropathy have become a part of my everyday life. I've lived with Osteoporosis and Raynaud's since my college years. My medications have caused the big "Gs" GERD and Gout. Some days I am hypotensive and other day Hypertensive. I could go on and on.
The Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter, teaches us to keep moving despite our morbid conditions. The Georgia Chapter encourages us to speak up when we visit the doctor. The Chapter lifts us up when we are sad. The Lupus Foundation educates us when we are newly diagnosed. The Georgia Chapter guides us when we are lost and the Chapter provides us with resources when we just don't know which direction to go.
I support the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, because it has paved the way for me to succeed in life. Despite my 17 medications and despite my over 15 medical conditions, I continue to work and continue to strive for the best. I will not let these conditions define me. I will define me.
I am lucky that I can work. 60% of lupus patients are unable to work at some point in their life. 25% of lupus patients are on disability. As such, all patients need the resources provided by the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America. This includes financial assistance, education programs, support groups, advocacy efforts, medical advocacy, prescription drug assistance, and other resources.
The Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia works throughout the year to make change! Be a part of that change by joining me as I participate in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™ in Atlanta, Georgia and Columbus, Georgia to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.
Will you make a tax-deductible donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus?
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Thank you for your generosity!
