2019 Walk To End Lupus Now Central Florida

KK's Lupie Unicorns

Welcome to our fundraising team page.

In October of 2018 our Kailey was diagnosed with Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), also known simply as lupus. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue in many parts of the body. Our journey started many months before this diagnoses. In the early Spring of that same year we begin to see changes in Kalieys energy, hair loss, weight, as well as high fevers with no explaination as to why. Through many trips to specialists and ER visits we were referred to the doctors at Shands hospital in Gainesville Florida. They went over the data for the last 6 months and also performed there own tests. The news finally came that the diagnosis was Lupus. She soon went into treatment.

For the first set of treatments we spent two weeks in the hospital as the doctors continued running tests to ensure what the best treatment would be. For the last 5 months we have made monthly trips to Gainesville for treatment. These treatments involve an admission into the hospital and an overnight stay for each visit.

After starting treatment Kailey has responded really well, so much the doctors are amazed at how well its going. Kailey has also remained tough throughout everything. She has missed over 20 days of school, but still maintains a 3.85 GPA. Throughout each treatment she would have her lap top to keep up with her work and also a book in hand to pass the time.

While Lupus can be treated and most go into remission it is not curable. This means that our girl for the forseable future has a long road ahead of her.

Imagine a day when doctors can say, "There is a cure for lupus". Until that day though, there is work to be done. That's why we are taking action in the fight against lupus. Join us as we participate in the Lupus Foundation of America's Walk to End Lupus Now! in Orlando to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.

Will you join our team and help us reach our fundraising goal? You’ll be supporting the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus. You can also support by making a secure contribution on our walk page. Every single dollar counts!

The walk will be held in Orlando Florida on April 27, 2019, from 3:30PM to 6:00PM. Starting at 512 E Washington St Orlando, FL 32801. If you would like to join our group for the walk please sign up no later than April 5, 2019. I will be ordering shirts so we can represent Kailey on this day.
