Chapter Event Changes Due to COVID-19

As much as we hate having to make the decision to not have in-person events this year, the health and wellbeing of the people we support, our constituents, volunteers and staff is our highest priority. A Tasteful Affair will be replaced with an online auction, and the Walk to End Lupus Now and In the Loop - Healthy Living with Lupus symposium will both be virtual events. Our goal is to decrease opportunities to spread COVID-19 while still offering educational and fundraising events that sustain our Chapter. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support and are already looking forward to next year when hopefully we'll be able to able to once again share in our normal comradery.

Support Group and Statewide Zoom Meetings

We know in these unprecedented times, we're all looking for ways to stay connected while practicing social distancing. Although our in-person support groups have been suspended until further notice due to COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, some of the groups that normally meet in person are temporarily meeting virtually via Zoom and we've also added a new Zoom meeting!  We're very happy to announce that beginning Tuesday, July 7, we will be hosting a new monthly Lupus Lifestyle support group via Zoom. This is in addition to the Anderson and Carmel support group meetings that have temporarily moved from in-person meetings to Zoom meetings due to COVID-19 and social distancing. The new meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month from 7-8:00 PM, and we hope you'll get comfortable and join us in sharing experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus!

For information on all support group meetings and how to participate, please visit https://www.lupus.org/indiana/support-groups-indiana; meetings are also posted on our Facebook page

Hydroxychloroquine: Facts vs. Fiction Webinar

The use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ/Plaquenil) as a COVID-19 treatment is back in the news. The Chapters of the Lupus Foundation of America came together and presented a special webinar edition of the Ask the Experts Teleconference Series to give the real facts. If you missed it, you can watch the recording of LFA, Greater Ohio Chapter VP, Leslie Tierney, RN, and David Batt, MD, of IU Health Physicians Rheumatology to hear an overview and answers to submitted questions as they relate to HCQ and lupus.

As always, thanks to Dr. Batt for his support of our Chapter and the people we serve!

Community Partners donate money for our annual A Tasteful Affair, Walk to End Lupus Now and In the Loop - Healthy Living with Lupus Symposium. GlaxoSmithKline also sponsors our support group meetings. The work we do would not be possible if it wasn't for our Community Partners like GSK.
