Indiana LFA Advocacy Task Force Goes to Washington!

From March 15-17, lupus advocates will once again converge on Washington, D.C. for the nation's largest lupus advocacy event. Summit attendees will learn from experts in the field about the latest in research, connect with hundreds of fellow lupus advocates, and storm Capitol Hill to urge our members of Congress to join our fight and support policies to improve the lives of all people affected by lupus.

This year, our Chapter's new Advocacy Task Force (ATF) will storm the Summit with members including Board Chair, Carla Day; Kayla Lockwood; Kristy Carter; Roselyn and Sheree Moore; Michelle McGuire and our Executive Director, Lisa Kelly. In the past, we've had only one or two people representing Indiana at the Summit so we're very excited to have a bigger presence at this year's Summit!

Registration will be open until March 2nd, or until National reaches capacity, but we hear tickets are going FAST! Learn more about National Policy Summit and register here.  If you are interested in joining the LFA Indiana Chapter ATF, please email Lisa@lupusindiana.org.

We Beat the Winter Blues Together

 group_photo.jpg

On Saturday, February 8th, members of our Chapter gathered for a warm afternoon aimed at 'Beating the Winter Blues,' and by all accounts, it was a success. Artist Joy Carter led our 2-hour painting event, and Judy Schaff, a psychotherapist who has lupus, blessed our audience with a presentation on how art can help combat the blues we so often feel during the gloomy winter months.  Huge thanks to Joy and Judy for making our day so special, and thank you to our sponsor for this event, GlaxoSmithKline.

Nora lives in Indiana with her spiritual partner, David. They are the proud parents of two sons, Christopher Taylor and John David. They share their home with two beloved cats, Chico and Cha Cha. Nora holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA but considers her greatest education the understanding that everything is divine energy and that we are all divinely connected. She was a corporate executive and is now a life coach and a faculty member at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where she delights in teaching. As a life coach, Nora also holds retreats where people from all walks of life experience the joy of being connected to our Creator and to all of creation via meditation, QiGong and B.E.S.T. practices.

Why Should I Make a Legacy Gift to LFA Indiana Chapter?

Making a planned gift to the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter is a special way to support our mission -- to find the causes of and cure for lupus and provide support and services to all people affected by lupus. A planned gift allows you to donate assets, yet defer the time we actually receive them.

The best gift plans improve your financial and tax situation, often right away. We understand that your own financial needs and those of your family come first. We encourage you to explore the possibilities and opportunities for creative gift planning. Donating a charitable gift of stock or other appreciated securities is a great way to improve the lives of a loved one with lupus, and receive an end-of-the-year tax break.

Support Groups

People with lupus may not be able to share with family and friends just how difficult it can be to live with the day-to-day struggles of a chronic illness such as lupus. Sharing their stories and experiences, openly and honestly with others “who have been there,” can help decrease a sense of isolation and helplessness, and promote a renewed sense of well-being.  Many lifestyle adjustments are often necessary to live successfully with lupus. The exchange of information in a support group can help members process this change.
