Scroll down for the answer.

Good afternoon, Friends!

What an amazing start to summer. The Walk to End Lupus Now registration site is OPEN so it's time to start forming your team and fundraising. Everyone who registers this year will receive a Be Powerful Walk t-shirt the day of the Walk. We have toolkits and sponsorship forms if you need help; don't be afraid to reach out to Kayla or myself. Register for the Walk here.

We're also gearing up for the upcoming Faces of Lupus Fashion Show on Sat. July 13th. If you don't have tickets yet, be sure to get them soon, as we do have a limited supply. All of the eighteen models in the fashion show have lupus --but lupus does NOT have them. Please support them by coming out.

Suzi Swinehart may have lupus, but that's not going to keep her from running the most prestigious foot race in the United States, the Badwater 135, in Death Valley, on July 15th. Suzi is raising money for our local Chapter with this race. Learn more in her story below and be sure to follow along on social media to hear about her race. Good luck, Suzi! You've got this.

Finally, if you're a motorcyle aficionado, please join me and the Krazy Horse Krew for their annual Rockin' Purple 4 Lupus ride on Sat. July 27th in Kokomo. If you have a chance to participate, you don't want to miss this experience. Let's get as many riders as possible this year.

We love what we do and we do it for you. Information for these events and much more is available at lupusindiana.org.

Sincerely,

Faces of Lupus Fashion Show

Have you got your tickets to the Faces of Lupus Fashion Show on Saturday, July 13th? Hurry, as there are a limited number of tickets available for purchase! Come out and show your support to our beautiful lupus models from 12:00 - 3:30 pm, at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis.

All of the models participating in the fashion show have lupus, showing the diversity of the population affected by this disease. The event's emcee will be WTHR meteorologist Lindsey Monroe. The show will include a light meal, giveaways, education, vendors, entertainment, photo booth, and more.

Krazy Horse Krew to Ride on July 27th

The Krazy Horse Krew is a group of family and friends riding to raise money for the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter. Krazy Horse Krew's Rockin' Purple 4 Lupus Ride has raised over $55,000 for our Chapter in the past seven years! Join them on Sat., July 27, at the VFW Post 1152, 920 N. Washington in Kokomo.

Suzi Swinehart to Compete in Badwater 135 on July 15th

Suzi Swinehart is an ultra-marathon runner from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who isn't letting lupus slow her down. On July 15th, she will compete in the Badwater 135-mile foot race through Death Valley. The time limit for finishing the race is 48 hours but Suzi hopes to finish in 30 hours! She doesn't plan on stopping until she's finished, and we're supporting her all the way!

Read more of Suzi's story here.

Support Group Information

We hope you'll join us at one of our upcoming support group meetings. We offer both in-person support group meetings and also a Teletalk support group. The philosophy of our support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus.  LFA support groups help develop the best coping strategies to reduce a stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.

We are in need of a co-facilitator for the Bloomington support group. If you are interested in joining Juliana Capshew in leading this group that meets monthly, please contact Debbie Campbell

Join us for our teletalk support group by phone from the comfort of your home on the 4th Monday of every month. Share experiences, methods of coping, and insights into living with lupus! This month's meeting will be held on July 22nd from 7-8pm. Registration information is available here.

AnswerAnswer:

Along with major gifts, planned gifts are the biggest donations a nonprofit receives. They can both greatly aid an organization and help to continue a loyal donor’s legacy.

Donors can give to a certain campaign or to the annual fund, but rarely do they have the chance to detail exactly how their money should be spent within the organization. Planned gifts put complete power in the donor’s hands.
