Dear Friends,
Thank you for making our 12th Annual Walk to End Lupus Now on September 29th an amazing event. We had over 700 walkers and over 80 teams take part. Fundraising is easy and you still have time to earn some fantastic incentive prizes. The fundraising deadline is November 9, 2018, so please keep it up. We are shy of this year's $85,000.00 goal, and it truly does take a village. Please reach out to family and friends for donations in the final days of fundraising. Our Chapter depends on people just like you to ensure we can continue bringing awareness, education, and patient services to those who need it the most. And thank you to our Walk Commitee and all of our awesome volunteers who work so hard planning and executing this event.
In two short weeks, we welcome you to our 2nd Annual In the Loop - Healthy Living with Lupus Symposium. Join us at the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel, Indianapolis, for a fun day of socializing, learning, and eating! Eight speakers, eight breakout sessions, a continental breakfast, and a buffet lunch. We promise you won't leave hungry or uninformed. Register today to be In The Loop.
Sincerely,

You ARE Powerful - Walk to End Lupus Now!

This year's Walk was held at Military Park/Canal Walk in Downtown Indianapolis. Thank you to WTHR Meteorologist Lindsey Monroe, DJ Rusty Redenbacher, Andre "The Beast" Crayton, our sponsors, exhibitors and all of our wonderful volunteers for a truly remarkable day. Together, we raised more than $70,000 for our Indiana Chapter! We can still meet our fundraising goal, but we need your help. Please continue fundraising for our Chapter and to earn amazing incentive prizes, and watch for next month’s newsletter where we will
recognize our fundraising Trailblazers -- individuals who raised over $1,000!
As a reminder, you have until November 9, 2018, to continue your fundraising to count toward your incentive prizes. If you raised $250.00 or more, please watch for an email from Turnkey regarding your incentive prizes. You MUST respond to that email. If you do not receive an email by December 1, 2018, please check your junk mail or spam mail. If not received, please contact Shelly Talley at 317-275-4400 or shelly@lupusindiana.org. We have also attached the link to the Walk survey if you have feedback you'd like to share.

Mindfulness Meditation is a technique to bring one’s attention to experiences occurring in the
present moment. According to the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts
Medical School, you can use Mindfulness Meditation to ease chronic pain and learn to better
manage your pain. It has also been shown to help with anxiety, depression and stress.
According to Learn the Art of Mindful Living, "Mindfulness helps one to cope with their pain,
which, in turn, helps improve the quality of your life. It also has the wonderful side benefit of
alleviating much of the mental and emotional strain associated with chronic pain. Most
importantly, it does this with no risks or negative side effects—being completely natural, the
only side effects are positive ones.”

We hope you'll join us at one of our support group meetings this month! The philosophy of our support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus. LFA support groups help develop the best coping strategies to reduce a stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.

Answer: There are no studies showing lupus directly causes oral health issues. However, it is very common for people with lupus to develop oral lesions or ulcerations in the mouth area. Learn more here
