Question

Is it normal fatigue or a lupus flair?

Scroll down for the answer.

Dear Friends,

We are exhausted from all of the fun at the Indiana State Fair LFA booth, but we're down right giddy about the upcoming Walk to End Lupus Now, Indianapolis, on Saturday, September 29th, in Military Park. We love this location and this year, free parking is available across the street from the park (see our website for details) at IUPUI. This is our largest event of the year --last year we had more than 1,100 Walkers --and this year should be even bigger! Please walk with us to make that happen. We're also looking for volunteers to help make this year's walk a success. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Shelly@lupusindiana.org.

Fundraising is easy and you still have time to earn your purple 100 club t-shirt! Walkers who have fundraised or donated $100 by September 9th will get their Purple t-shirt on Walk Day. After September 9th, Walk shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will also be available after the Walk.

In October, we welcome you to our 2nd Annual In the Loop - Healthy Living with Lupus Symposium. Chef Wendell will be our keynote speaker and we have eight informative breakout sessions on everything from CBD Oil for Pain Management to Lupus and Relationships. We're also welcoming exhibitors to this event. if you're interested in sponsoring, exhibiting, or volunteering for In the Loop, please email Shelly@lupusindiana.org.

Finally, thank you to all of our volunteers over the summer. We had the Indianapolis Black Expo, the Shalom Health Fair, Lupus Family Picnic, a northwest Indiana health fair, and 16 volunteers for the six days we spent at the Indiana State Fair. We truly couldn't do it without you.

Sincerely,

Lisa Kelly signature

We hope you'll join us at one of our support group meetings this month!  The philosophy of our support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus.  LFA support groups help develop the best coping strategies to reduce a stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.

SUPPORT GROUP MEETING CHANGES:

*The Anderson support group meetings have moved to the United Way, 205 W. 11th St. Conference room.  In addition, Shemeka Jones has joined Bonnie Sweeney and Dr. Marie Kelly-Worden as a co-facilitator for the group.

*The Kokomo support group will not be meeting in September due to the Labor Day Holiday.  Julie Smith looks forward to joining Stacy Weller as co-facilitator when the group reconvenes in October.

Answer

Answer:  Is it normal to be tired at the end of the day, especially if you have been physically active?  If you have lupus and your work or home life requires high levels of energy, it is normal to feel exhausted.  Not every bout of fatigue is a lupus flair.  The best way to determine whether or not you are having a flare is to learn about the symptoms and triggers, track them carefully, and keep the lines of communication open between you and your doctor.  Learn more here.
