Question

How can I help people living with lupus?

Scroll down for the answer.

Dear Friends,

I would like to introduce myself, for those of you who don’t already know me. I have been with our Chapter for almost two years now, having started as office manager under former Executive Director, Morgan McGill. In February of this year, I was named Interim Executive Director by our Board, and there has been such a flurry of activity since then, the dust has yet to settle. Today however, the "interim" is gone, and I'm thrilled to be the permanent Executive Director. Shelly Talley started recently as our new office manager.  We would also like to welcome two new board members, Allyson Emley and Kelly French. Our staff and board are excited for what’s to come. Truly, there is heightened energy with our Chapter, and we hope you feel it, too.

Unbelievably, summer is almost over! But we hope you will come see us at the Indiana State Fair August 3rd through the 6th and on the 18th and 19th. We'll be in the Exposition Hall (with air conditioning) providing information about lupus, services we offer, and upcoming events including the 12th Annual Walk to End Lupus and the In the Loop - Healthy Living with Lupus symposium. We will also be selling lupus merchandise at the fair, so come by and see us in booth #519!

Finally, and this is something I’m so very proud of – we’ve created an amazing video, #IAMLUPUS, starring some of our favorite people with lupus and the video just finished a 30-day rotation on WTHR! Please like this video and share it far and wide with those you know and love.

I hope you will join us for all the fun that this year holds. We are a strong community, and we’re just getting stronger. Thank YOU for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Lisa Kelly signature

We hope you'll join us at one of our support group meetings this month! The philosophy of our support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers, and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping, and insights into living with lupus.

LFA support groups help develop the best coping strategies to reduce stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.

WHAT A RIDE!

More than 75 motor-cycles took part in the Krazy Horse Krew's 7th Annual Rockin' Purple for Lupus Ride on Saturday, July 28, in Kokomo, including our own Lisa Kelly.

Stacy Weller and Krew did an amazing job setting up this ride which included 4 stops and 118 miles. With a police escort for the first 20+ miles and motorists pulled over on the side of the road, 75 bikes with purple-clad drivers/riders what quite a beautiful spectacle. Much awareness was raised, as were funds for local lupus education and support. Thank you to all who participated in this event!
