A Message From the CEO
It is hard to believe that Fall is almost here. We have had a busy summer hosting and preparing for our community events, and we are so excited about the fundraising and education programs happening this Fall. I highly encourage you to attend one of our upcoming events if you can. When we gather, it gives us the opportunity to build our community and learn more about what our lupus warriors are facing every day.
As you can see in the articles below, we have a mix of ways we can gather. Some of us will be together in person at educational events in Dallas and Tyler or walks in Austin and San Antonio, but others will gather online for seminars or support groups. Since the pandemic we have made an effort to meet each of our warriors and their supporters where they need us. With that in mind, we will soon be launching the Community Walk Box that will allow you to organize your own walk with your friends, family, and neighbors in your very own community. We want everyone to know that they are part of the Lupus Foundation of America Lone Star Chapter! See you soon!

Are you an adult living with lupus nephritis? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a new clinical trial – PALIZADE (NCT05781750). Researchers are evaluating an investigational drug, zetomipzomib (KZR-616), to see if it is safe and effective in treating lupus nephritis. Who May Qualify? • Must be 18 years of age or older • Have a clinical diagnosis of active lupus nephritis (Class III or IV with or without Class V, or Class V alone) • Have too much protein in the urine • Must be willing to take mycophenolate and steroids
What Does the Clinical Trial Entail? All participants in the trial will either receive zetomipzomib 30 mg or 60 mg, or placebo, given through a once-weekly subcutaneous injection for 52 weeks in addition to the study-specific medication regimen, such as mycophenolate. Participants must be willing to take and then lower steroid doses during the study. A kidney biopsy confirming kidney involvement due to lupus is required, which can be completed during the screening period of the study at no cost to the participant if one has not been completed within one year prior to screening.
Additionally, study drug, all study assessments and procedures will be provided at no cost to participants. Remote home trial and travel concierge services may also be available.
